Eid al-Adha 2027 is expected to fall on Sunday 16 May or Monday 17 May, depending on the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah crescent, with the Day of Arafah the day before. In the UAE that is expected to mean a four-day holiday. Unlike Eid al-Fitr in March, this Eid arrives as the Gulf heats up, so the outfit questions are as much about fabric as about style. Here is how to plan.
When is Eid al-Adha 2027?
Eid al-Adha falls on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah, the last month of the Islamic calendar, so its Gregorian date moves about 11 days earlier each year and depends on the moon.
- Expected crescent search: 6 or 7 May 2027.
- Day of Arafah: 15 or 16 May 2027.
- Eid al-Adha: Sunday 16 or Monday 17 May 2027.
- UAE holiday: Gulf News, citing astronomical forecasts in October 2026, expects a four-day public holiday covering Arafah Day and the three days after. What's On Dubai's list of predicted 2027 holidays gives the same pattern.
These are forecasts. The official dates are announced after the moon-sighting committees meet, usually only days before, and Saudi Arabia and the UAE may announce separately. Plan around the earlier date, so you are ready either way.
How is Eid al-Adha different from Eid al-Fitr for what you wear?
The spirit is the same: wearing your best clothes for Eid is a long-standing custom. In a hadith recorded by al-Bukhari, Umar ibn al-Khattab offered the Prophet a fine cloak so that he could adorn himself in it for Eid and for receiving delegations, and scholars cite it as evidence that dressing well for Eid is a recognised practice.
What changes is the setting.
- The weather. In mid-May, Dubai's average daily high is around 39°C, according to climate records for Dubai International Airport, against the mild days of an early-March Eid al-Fitr.
- The rhythm of the day. The morning centres on the Eid prayer and, for many families, the sacrifice and a large family lunch. Visits and gatherings follow over the next days.
- Travel. A four-day holiday in May is a popular time to travel, so many women pack for Eid rather than dress at home.
For the March holiday, see our Eid al-Fitr 2027 outfit guide.
What should you wear on Eid morning?
Eid morning is for the prayer, greetings and the family lunch, often at the home of the eldest relatives. It calls for something elegant, modest and comfortable for hours of sitting, serving and greeting.
- A light kaftan or jalabiya in cotton, linen blend or chiffon, with embroidery at the neckline or sleeves.
- A two-piece set, such as a long tunic over wide trousers or a skirt, which moves well in a busy kitchen or majlis.
- Soft, light colours for daytime: ivory with gold, sand, sage, powder blue or blush.
- Practical sleeves. If you will be helping with the lunch, wide or bell sleeves are lovely to look at but impractical near the stove; a fitted cuff or three-quarter sleeve is easier.
- Henna, planned ahead. Saudipedia notes that women prepare special henna for both Eids. If you want henna on Eid morning, book the artist or apply it two days before, so the colour has deepened by the day.

What should you wear to Eid evenings and dinners?
The evenings of the Eid holiday are for visits, family dinners and, increasingly, hotel and restaurant gatherings. They are the dressier half of the holiday.
- An embroidered or beaded kaftan is the classic Gulf choice for an Eid evening: formal, modest and comfortable for a long dinner.
- A long-sleeved evening gown in a deeper colour suits a hotel dinner or a larger family gathering.
- Richer colours come into their own after sunset: emerald, burgundy, navy, black with gold, or metallics.
- Indoors, dress for the air-conditioning. Gulf homes and hotels are cool inside, so a sheer cape or light wrap is useful even in May.

Which fabrics work in May heat?
With daytime highs near 39°C outside and cold air-conditioning inside, choose fabrics that breathe outdoors and still look polished indoors.
- For daytime: cotton, linen blends, cotton voile, light crepe and silk-feel chiffon. Avoid heavy polyester satin for anything you will wear outdoors.
- For evenings: chiffon and georgette over a breathable lining, light crepe, and lighter beaded pieces where the beads are on sheer fabric rather than on a heavy base.
- Linings matter. A cotton or viscose lining is cooler against the skin than polyester.
- Dark colours absorb heat, so keep deep shades for the evening.

When should you order an Eid al-Adha outfit?
Work back from the earliest possible Eid date, 16 May 2027.
- Allow for delivery. If a shop quotes 10–15 days, order by about 25 April to have the piece by early May.
- Allow for trying on and an exchange. An exchange needs another delivery, so leave at least a week between arrival and the first day you need the outfit.
- Allow for alterations. Tailors are busiest in the fortnight before Eid. Book early, and try the outfit on with the shoes you will wear.
- If you are travelling, have the outfit ready before you pack, and choose fabrics that steam out quickly in a hotel bathroom.
