Eid al-Fitr 2027 is expected on Tuesday 9 or Wednesday 10 March, depending on the sighting of the moon. Most women need two looks for the first day: something light and modest for the Eid prayer, breakfast and family visits in the morning, and something dressier for the evening dinner or gathering. A kaftan or jalabiya suits the morning; a beaded kaftan or a modest evening gown suits the night. If you are ordering online, work back from Eid morning rather than from the end of Ramadan. With a 10–15 day delivery window, about 20 February is the last comfortable date to order.
When is Eid al-Fitr 2027?
The UAE's Astronomy Centre expects Ramadan 2027 to begin on Monday 8 February and Eid al-Fitr to fall on Tuesday 9 March if the Shawwal crescent is seen on the evening of 8 March, or on Wednesday 10 March if it is not, as reported by Khaleej Times. These are forecasts. The UAE's moon-sighting committee confirms the date after looking for the crescent, and other GCC countries announce their own.
The National explains that UAE employees receive the first three days of Shawwal as paid holiday, and that a 30-day Ramadan makes its last day a holiday too. Either way, the break is expected to start on 9 March.
For outfit planning, the safe assumption is simple: have everything ready, steamed and tried on by the evening of 8 March.

What should you wear on Eid morning?
Eid morning starts early and moves fast. A Gulf News feature on Emirati homes describes the usual order: the Eid prayer, breakfast with the family, then visits to relatives and close friends, whose homes stay open with coffee, sweets and snacks. It also notes that many people like to wear something new on Eid morning.
That shapes the outfit. You will get in and out of the car several times, sit in several majlis, greet elders and hold small cups of coffee.
- Best choices: a new jalabiya, a lightly embroidered kaftan, or a long, loose dress with sleeves.
- Coverage: high or modest neckline, long sleeves, ankle length. Morning visits usually include older relatives.
- Fabric: crepe, soft satin or a lined chiffon. Avoid anything that creases badly after an hour of sitting.
- Embellishment: keep it to the neckline or cuffs. Heavy beading is better saved for the evening.
- Shoes: comfortable heels or embellished flats you can slip on and off at each door.
If you also pray at an outdoor musalla, a long, loose layer is easier than a fitted gown.
What should you wear to an Eid evening party or dinner?
The evening is when Eid dressing goes up a level. Families host dinners for relatives, friends gather in each other's homes or at hotels, and the photographs are taken. A Khaleej Times report on Eid in the UAE describes residents moving from prayers and lunch with relatives to evening dinners with family.
- At a family dinner at home: a beaded or embroidered kaftan is ideal, dressy but still relaxed enough for floor seating.
- At a hotel dinner or a larger party: a modest evening gown with a high neck and long or cape sleeves. The beaded chiffon cape gown is one example of the shape.
- At a women-only gathering: you may want more sparkle, and some women choose a gown they would not wear to a mixed event. Bring a wrap or an abaya for the journey.
- Jewellery: this is the time for statement earrings or a cuff; keep the neckline clear if the dress is already beaded.
Our iftar and suhoor guide covers the hotel-tent look in more detail, and most of it carries straight over to Eid night.

Which colours work for Eid?
There is no set Eid colour, and families differ. A few practical guides help, though:
- Morning, in daylight: ivory, champagne, soft gold, blush, sage, powder blue and lilac look fresh in sunlight and photograph well outdoors.
- Evening, under artificial light: emerald, burgundy, navy, deep purple and black with gold all look rich, and beading catches the light better against a dark ground.
- Metallics: gold and silver are part of the occasion for many families; one metallic element, such as embroidery or a belt, is usually enough.
- Matching: some families coordinate colours for photographs. Ask before you buy if yours does.
If you change between morning and evening, a light morning piece and a darker evening one also stops the two looks blurring together in photographs.
Kaftan or evening gown: which is better for Eid?
Both work; they suit different parts of the day.
- Kaftan: loose, covered and easy to sit in. It works from the morning visits to a family dinner, and many styles suit a range of sizes because of the relaxed cut. Choose a two-piece or lined kaftan if you want shine without sheerness.
- Evening gown: more structured and more formal. It is the stronger choice for a hotel dinner, a party or a family photograph, but it is less comfortable for a long day of visits.
- Kaftan over a gown: a sheer embroidered kaftan layered over a simple inner dress gives you both, and you can wear the inner dress on its own another day.
If you only buy one piece, a beaded kaftan is the most versatile. You can browse kaftan styles in the Arabic section of the shop.
How many outfits do you need for Eid?
Most people plan for the first day and improvise the rest. A realistic plan for three days of holiday looks like this:
- Day 1 morning: your new piece, for prayer, breakfast and family visits.
- Day 1 evening: a dressier kaftan or gown for dinner.
- Day 2: the morning piece again with a different scarf, belt or jewellery, or the inner dress from a two-piece kaftan on its own.
- Day 3: whatever is left for a relaxed visit or a lunch out.
Restyling is normal and sensible. A belt changes the line of a kaftan, a cape or shawl changes a gown's silhouette, and a different scarf colour changes the whole look in photographs.
When should you order an Eid outfit online?
Count back from 8 March, the evening before the earliest expected Eid date. Lianora delivers across the GCC in 10–15 days from the moment an order is confirmed, and confirms availability within 24 hours, so:
- By about 20 January 2027: order if you might need a different size. That leaves time to try the piece on, ask for an exchange within 7 days of delivery (unworn, in its original packaging) and still receive the new size before Eid. How long an exchange takes to reach you is worth asking before you order; see ordering and payment.
- By about 20 February 2027: the last comfortable date. Fifteen days from 20 February is 7 March.
- After 22 February: you are relying on the faster end of the window. Choose a shop with stock in your city if you are this late.
Check sizes and fit before you order, and read the delivery and returns terms wherever you buy. Couriers, tailors and steamers are all busiest in the last week of Ramadan.
Questions
Is Eid al-Fitr 2027 on 9 or 10 March?
Astronomers in the UAE expect 9 March if the crescent is seen on the evening of 8 March, and 10 March if it is not. The official date is announced by each country after moon sighting, so plan for the earlier date.
Do you have to wear new clothes on Eid?
It is not a requirement, but wearing something new on Eid morning is a cherished custom in many Gulf families. If a new piece is not possible, wear your best clean outfit and refresh it with a new scarf or accessory.
Can you wear black on Eid?
Yes, especially in the evening. Black with gold or silver embroidery is a classic Gulf choice for Eid dinners. For morning visits, many women prefer lighter shades, but black is not considered inappropriate.
Is it too late to order an Eid outfit during Ramadan?
Not if you order in the first half of the month. With a 10–15 day delivery window, ordering by about 20 February should get your piece to you before Eid. Later than that, choose a seller with local stock.
